The Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Recreation Committee, is responsible for planning, organizing, and administering recreation services for the community. The Department is also responsible for the maintenance of the existing facilities (Town Beach and parks), as well as coordinating their scheduling. We work closely with the School department, local civic groups, and Town sports organizations, as well.

The Recreation Department could not exist without the hard work and dedication of volunteers. If you have a special hobby that you'd like to share, or have some extra time, we'd love to have you join us! Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas for programs.

2017 Adopt-A-Spot Information

We would like to invite you to participate in the 2017 Adopt-A-Spot Program.  This Program provides businesses, volunteer groups, non-profit organizations and residents of the community, an opportunity to help improve designated areas of Town that could benefit from some love, care and attention.

We have “clean-up” spots and “garden” spots available for you to adopt and maintain through the month of September.

For those who want to support the Program and help keep Windham beautiful but just can’t commit the time to do the work yourself, we have you covered.  You can “adopt” a spot for a one-day clean-up during the month of June.

Press Release - Recreation

MARCH 23, 2016

To the residents of Windham:

On behalf of Windham Recreation, I would like to thank the voters for their overwhelming support of Warrant Article #9; which sought funding in the amount of $90,000 to begin construction of a passive recreation area at Griffin Park. The intent is develop the former Skate Park into a location encompassing sitting areas, shade, and activities geared towards both our older and younger Park visitors. These activities will include such things as chess, checkers, hopscotch, and four square.

Overall the estimated cost of this project, without fundraising or donations, is $200,000. Therefore, and in keeping with the recommendation of the Capital Improvements Committee upon their review of the proposal, we will soon begin actively seeking donations and undertaking fundraising efforts towards completing the project with as little, additional taxpayer funds as possible.
