“The mission of the Windham Police Department is to provide the Town of Windham and its residents with professional police services with our goal toward protecting life and property, maintaining the peace and dignity of the Town of Windham, continually striving to improve our operation, and properly planning for the future.” (Adopted 03/22/00)

The Windham Police Department is a full-time department currently staffed by seventeen (17) full-time sworn personnel, including the Chief, Captain, four (4) Sergeants, two (2) detectives, and eight (8) patrol officers. Internal assignments include a Traffic and Community Resource Officer. The Department also has on staff a full-time Prosecutor, a part-time Records Clerk and full-time Department Secretary. Our Communications Center is staffed by five (5) full-time and one (1) part-time dispatcher, who coordinate Police Department response. Our dispatchers are also responsible for receiving Animal Control calls.

In addition to 24-hour public safety services including, at a minimum, two (2) marked police cruisers on duty at all times, the following services are provided by the Windham Police Department :

  • Neighborhood Watch: A police officer will meet with neighborhood groups to set up crime prevention methods. 

  • House and Vacation Checks: The Police Department will conduct special checks on residential properties while occupants are away. 

  • Crime Prevention Programs: An officer will meet with individuals or groups to facilitate crime prevention.

  • Rape/Assault Defense Courses: Trained RAD officers will instruct women and children in defensive maneuvers.

Additionally, the Department actively participates in or oversees the following:

  • Annual Christmas Toy collection in cooperation with Windham Helping Hands.

  • 9-1-1 Cell phone distribution program for victims of domestic violence.

Once again, Animal Control issues must be reported to the Windham Police Department at (603) 434-5577. Please convey your situation to the dispatcher on duty, who will refer it our Animal Control officer or his deputy for response.
