HIGHWAY SAFETY MEETING
July 2, 2003
On July 2, 2003 , the Department Heads discussed the following request for highway safety improvements and made the following recommendations.
Attendance: David Sullivan, Chief Bruce Moeckel, Al Barlow, Chief Don Messier, Al Turner, and Jack McCartney were present.
PLANNING BOARD PLANS:
Castle Reach Phase III
-
The Planning Board requested input on an optional connector road off of Morrison Road into Phase III of Castle Reach.
-
The Committee discussed the need for the connector given the Temporary Connector presently being constructed at the end of Hancock Road . Mr. Messier moved that the optional connector road was not necessary for emergency response purposes and therefore should not be recommended by the Highway Safety Committee. Mr. Moeckel seconded. Passed unanimously.
HIGHWAY SAFETY ISSUES:
West Shore Road - Installation of Guard Rail at #3
-
The Committee discussed a request from the owners of #6 West Shore Rd to install a guard rail in front of their property due to two vehicles hitting the house in recent years.
-
The Committee reviewed the area and pictures taken by the police department.
-
Mr. McCartney moved to deny the request based on the need for a guardrail not being warranted given the present road profile. Mr. Turner seconded. Passed unanimously.
Bridle Bridge Road - Safety Measures in area of #21
-
Placement of street light
-
Lowering of speed limit
-
Signage to restrict heavy truck traffic
-
Issue #2 - The Committee requested the police department conduct a traffic survey in the area to determine whether the present speed limit is warranted.
-
Issue #3 – The Committee understood that this area is already posted for no thru trucking, however they will insure that signage is installed
-
Issue #1 – Mr. Moeckel moved to recommend against installation of a street light as the Committee has tended to only consider street lights at street intersections or dangerous curvy roadway. This area does not seem to warrant installation of a street light. Mr. Messier seconded. Passed unanimously.
