HIGHWAY SAFETY MEETING

January 3, 2002

 

On January 3, 2002 , the Department Heads discussed the following request for highway safety improvements and made the following recommendations.

Attendance: David Sullivan, Chief Bruce Moeckel, Chief Steve Fruchtman, Rex Norman, Don Messier, DFC, Pat Yatsevich, Eric DeLong, and Al Turner.

PLANNING BOARD PLANS:

Rogers Commercial Building

  • Mr. Delong moved that the HSC saw no apparent issues with the plans as shown. Mr. Norman seconded. Passed unanimously.

HIGHWAY SAFETY ISSUES:

County Road – Request to lower speed limit to 25 mph

  • This road is a dead end road with approximately 11 homes. Concern is with speed of traveling cars.

  • Mr. Turner moved to deny the request due to lack of supporting evidence to warrant any change in speed limit.  Mr. Fruchtman seconded. Passed unanimously.

Rte 111 and Briar Road - Request to eliminate passing zone in area

  • Mr. Turner moved to submit request to State Department of Transportation as this area is on a state road. Mr. Delong seconded. Passed unanimously.

Rte 28 and Location of Fire Substation

  • The Committee discussed the on going discussions at the Planning Board and Capital Improvement Committees regarding a possible future public safety substation along Route 28. Parcel 8-B-900, owned by the town, has been discussed as a possible location. Mr. Turner asked for comments from the Highway Safety Committee.

  • After a brief discussion, Mr. Moeckel moved that the committee support the town considering the use of lot 8-B-900 as a future site for a substation for public safety departments should the town find building such a structure favorable upon further review. Mr. Delong seconded. Passed unanimously.
