HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
February 10, 1998
Present: T. Furlong; C. Pynn; M. Stoltz; C. Webber
Excused: C. Todisco
Absent: W. Bailey
Motion by M. Stoltz, seconded by C. Pynn to accept minutes of January 8. Passed
- Sign at museum: Al Hammar has completed lettering for Armstrong Building/Museum sign. It will be installed over original sign after frame has been repainted. Sign and frame for side entrance will be built and lettered by Al Hammar. Interior wall and ceiling painting for the Armstrong Building is complete. The original paint colors were researched and have been restored with striking effects. The woodwork has also been refurbished and reconfiguration of the vestibule to its original form is complete.
- A letter has been sent to the New Hampshire Department od Historic Resources regarding the status of the Bartley House and Senior Center. The HDC is strongly opposed to any move on the part of the town to demolish these structures. The NHDHR is in full agreement regarding preservation of these historic buildings.
- The commission will work on a handout regarding the Heritage Commission article on the town warrant. It is very important that people go to Town Meeting and vote yes on this historic preservation article. By adding heritage commission duties to its present duties, the HDC would have the ability to interact with other groups in town as an advisory, nonregulatory body when historic structures or areas are to be impacted. C. Webber commented that it should be stressed that this is a non-money article. Members will distribute handouts at the recycle station and the post office. With Mr. Lankin's permission, copies will also be at the library.
- Discussion regarding straightening curve at Fletcher's Corner on Marblehead Road. T. Furlong will speak with Bob Devlin to see if site distance could be improved by clearing brush rather than so drastically changing the character of this old road.
- According to the master plan update project plan it appears that a historic chapter is not listed. This may be because the HDC completed the Historic Resource List and chapter last year. C. Pynn will inquire as to the status of the update.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carol Pynn
Chairman Windham Historic Distric Commission
