FEBRUARY 6, 2001

Present: T.Furlong; C.Pynn; P.Schena; M.Stoltz; C.Webber

Due to family concerns, this meeting was held two days early and did not follow posted agenda.

Bartley House Grant: The Board met with D.Sullivan to discuss preliminary application for this grant. The Board made some changes to the text and will give Mr. Sullivan the new wording by Wednesday, February 7. It will be submitted by the deadline of February 12. Mr. Sullivan also gave each member a copy of the LCHIP Criteria, Guidelines, and Procedures book. If this grant is accepted, the final round of applications will be due in April.

Station Foundation 2001 grant program: Applications for this grant will be due by April 13, 2001. This program provides money for train station restoration/revitalization and is quickly becoming a national organization. This application will be worked on and hopefully completed at the March 8 meeting.

Heritage Commission comments to Planning Board

  • Pond View Development
    Moeckel Road lots 24-D-700, 702, 703,704
The Commission noted that there is a historic bridge in the area. The Board requests that the bridge not be impacted by increased traffic or transportation of construction materials. The Board also requests that this road not be widened in order to maintain the historic qualities of the area.

  • Road names for Castle Reach development
The developer has suggested using the names of English castles. The Commission is not in agreement with this and is submitting suggestions that reflect Windham's own history. Names submitted for consideration are: Bahan; Hoyt; Proctor; Seavey; Alexander. The Commission has also requested a time extension for further research into historic names for the area. C.Pynn will contact Mr.Turner to assure that the exact location of Bahan Trail is noted on all plans of the Castle Reach development. This was a condition recorded at the July 22, 1998 Planning Board meeting.

    Respectfully Submitted,

    Carol Pynn
    Chairman, Historic District/Heritage Commission
